John E. Clark - Montclair, NJ

John E. Clark, 67, of Montclair, NJ, one of the original founding members of Clark Guldin Attorneys at Law, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023.

A graduate of Rutgers University and Rutgers’ School of Law, John used his strong work ethic, personal charm, and professionalism to fashion a law career that spanned nearly three decades.

Prior to practicing law, John was involved in various businesses, including managing a specialty contracting firm in New York, and other ventures including restaurants and specialty food marketing. He began his career in the construction industry as a project manager for a New York City developer. Thereafter, he graduated with honors from Rutgers University and later obtained his law degree.

John established Clark Guldin Attorneys at Law in November 2010. Mr. Clark concentrated his practice in the areas of construction law and litigation, business law, and business litigation and dispute resolution, and provided counseling and advice to businesses and individuals concerning a wide range of business ventures, transactions, and disputes. He was admitted to practice in the state and federal courts in New York and New Jersey. Prior to founding the Firm, John was a Member of Epstein Becker & Green, a 400-lawyer national law firm headquartered in New York, where he led the construction law practice in New York, New Jersey, and the Northeast. Prior to EBG, John was for two years the Vice President & Chief Counsel of New Jersey Schools Development Authority, brought in as part of the agency reforms instituted by the then-newly elected Governor Jon S. Corzine. Prior to his stint at NJSDA, John practiced law at Lowenstein Sandler PC. In addition to fierce advocacy, John frequently lectured on construction law topics and has been an adjunct professor of philosophy at his alma mater, Rutgers University. He was a Fellow of the Construction Lawyers Society of America.

John was hard-working, kind-hearted, intelligent, thoughtful and valued his family and close friends immensely. He used empathy, practicality, and common sense to make connections. John was good at networking; he remembered people’s names and what was important to them.

John Edward Clark was born November 8, 1956 in Kearny, NJ. He spent much of his youth in Florida until he moved to New Jersey at the age of 22.

John had a deep love for the arts, especially classical music and Beethoven. He held season tickets to Carnegie Hall. He traveled extensively, often enjoying performances around the globe. Among his favorite destinations were London, Greece and New Orleans. John loved baseball and the New York Mets. He was most happy when enjoying a good meal with good company with an even better bottle of wine.
