Richard A. Outhwaite, Esq. is a Family Law attorney at Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group. Mr. Outhwaite has exclusively specialized in Family Law throughout his nearly 30 years in practice. He is a passionate family law advocate devoted to assisting his clients in achieving positive outcomes in their matters. Mr. Outhwaite strongly protects and advocates for his clients’ legal rights and the rights of their children, recognizing that each client’s needs and goals require individualized care and attention. Working closely with his clients, Mr. Outhwaite analyzes and explains the law relevant to each individual’s set of circumstances, and then formulates effective legal strategies for successfully resolving these issues.


Mr. Outhwaite is extensively experienced in all areas of Family Law including divorce, custody, child support, parenting time, equitable distribution of assets, post- divorce court applications and domestic violence proceedings. Mr. Outhwaite is “resolution oriented” in his approach to divorce and family law matters and seeks out of court settlement methods whenever appropriate and advantageous for his clients. Mr. Outhwaite also assists the Family Court Early Settlement Panel wherein he volunteers to help facilitate the amicable resolution of divorce matters without the necessity of trial. When circumstances dictate that a trial is necessary, his clients benefit from Mr. Outhwaite’s substantial litigation experience and esteemed reputation for zealously standing up for his clients.


Due to his recognized skill and knowledge in the matrimonial field, Mr. Outhwaite has been appointed by Family Law Judges to serve as a Blue Ribbon Panelist with regard to mediating/resolving highly contentious and complex divorce cases. Also, Mr. Outhwaite has been appointed by the Court as a Guardian ad Litem to advocate for children. He has lectured on Family Law matters both at the Institute for Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) and at American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) functions. He has also lectured at the Matrimonial Law Clerk “Boot Camp”, an instructional program for incoming Family Court Law Clerks.


Mr. Outhwaite has also authored Family Law articles which have been published in both the New Jersey Lawyer and the Matrimonial Strategist. He has been involved in three family law matters that have resulted in reported decisions: Roskowski v. Roskowski, 274 NJ Super 620 (Ch. Div. 1993); Matter of Adoption by W.P. and M.P., 308 NJ Super 376 (App. Div. 1998); Kiernan v. Kiernan, 355 NJ Super 89 (App. Div. 2002). Pursuant to The Hague Convention, Mr. Outhwaite is listed by the United States Department of State as an attorney in New Jersey to be contacted in regards to international child abduction cases.


Mr. Outhwaite received his Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall School of Law. During law school, he was an active member of the Family Law Clinic. Upon graduation, he clerked for the Honorable Herbert S. Glickman, J.S.C., Family Court, Essex County.
