Attorney Information

Overview

I have been a partner at the firm for 17+ years. I have a broad-based commercial and estate law practice, with an emphasis on business dispute resolution (corporations, creditors' rights, commercial, tax, and estate litigation), transaction planning (contracts, loan documentation, tax and estate planning), and local government law. In that last capacity, I have served as solicitor or assistant solicitor to numerous local public agencies, including Cumberland County College, the Cumberland County Improvement Authority, the Cumberland County Agricultural Development Board, Deerfield Township, the Buena Borough Municipal Utilities Authority, and the Maurice River Township Zoning Board. I have also served as local bond counsel to the Washington Township (Gloucester County) Municipal Utilities. Currently, I also serve as special tax counsel to the City of Vineland.

I've served as a business law instructor at the Cumberland County College. I've also been active over the course of my 27 years in the County in pro bono work for local non-profit organizations and public/private partnerships, including the Landis Theater Foundation, (on whose Board of Directors I also serve), the U.S. Wild and Scenic Rivers System Task Force, Citizens United to Protect the Maurice River, and the Cumberland County Ad Hoc Committee on Hazardous Waste. In these latter capacities I received distinguished service recognition from the Cumberland County Board of chosen Freeholders and the U.S. Congress.

I earned a post-graduate law degree, a Masters in Taxation, from New York University in 1983. My primary law degree was earned at the Villanova University School of Law in 1979. I also attained a B.S. in Management from Lehigh University in 1976 after three years of study. I am admitted to practice before numerous State and Federal Courts, and am a member of the bar in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. My appellate practice has included appearances before the New Jersey Supreme Court and the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals.

My professional associations include the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Cumberland County Bar Association (including six years of service on the County Judicial and Prosecutorial Appointments Committee).

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
