Overview
Mike Sievers was born in Gallup, New Mexico, where he grew up and graduated high school before heading off to college at New Mexico State University. After graduating from NMSU with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communications and a supplemental major in Law and Society, Mike tried his hand at newspaper reporting for four years. He worked as a sports/news reporter in Silver City, New Mexico; the editor of a newspaper in Socorro, New Mexico; and a sports editor in Cortez, Colorado.
After one year in Colorado, Mike was badly missing green chile and all the other comforts of his home state and wanted to do something else with his life, so he decided to attend law school at the University of New Mexico School of Law.
After his first semester in law school, Mike worked as a law clerk at McGinn Montoya Love Curry & Sievers PA, and quickly realized that he had found his home. He was inspired by the firms’ courageous clients and excited by the firm’s commitment to making positive changes through the legal process on behalf of those clients. Mike continued to work for MMLCS as a law clerk while attending law school, where he served as Managing Editor of the New Mexico Law Review, president of the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Student Association, and graduated with honors in 2013. Mike learned he passed the bar just one week before he married the love of his life, Amanda. Upon officially becoming an attorney, Mike became an associate attorney with MMLCS.
Since becoming an attorney, Mike has devoted himself to MMLCS’s clients by writing trial court and appellate briefs, taking and defending depositions, working with experts, preparing for trials, and trying cases with the firm’s partners. While he works on all types of cases, he has a particular interest in and passion for representing plaintiffs in medical malpractice cases and cases involving semi-truck collisions. Over the years since he passed the bar, Mike has worked on numerous trucking and medical malpractice cases; taken hundreds of hours of continuing education courses about trucking cases; and learned how to drive a manual transmission semi-truck from one of the country’s leading experts during an intensive educational course.
Mike serves on the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Board of Directors, serves as Copy Editor of the New Mexico Trial Lawyers’ quarterly journal, and is a member of the American Association for Justice’s Trucking Litigation Group and the Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys. In 2023, Mike became board certified in Truck Accident Law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy after passing an exam demonstrating his skills and knowledge in representing people who have been harmed by crashes involving commercial trucks. He has also served on the board of editors of the New Mexico Bar Bulletin and the board of directors of Cuidando Los Niños, an Albuquerque nonprofit organization. During his spare time, Mike enjoys spending time with his wife, two children, and two dogs; running long distances; playing and watching hockey and other sports; and cooking.
