Attorney Information

Overview

Jacob Groth joined PPD in 2025. He has an interest in medical malpractice defense, as well as construction law. Jacob is proud to bring his legal education and experience to the Capital Region of NY. He grew up in Washington State, where he enjoyed the great outdoors, often hiking and playing soccer.

Prior to joining PPD, Jacob graduated cum lade from Albany Law School, and also worked as a legal intern for Albany County in the litigation department assisting with municipal negligence defense.

Jacob received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Washington State University, where he first became an avid writer, even having a brief stint as an author prior to law school. Jacob’s background in economics is beneficial to his work in the legal field, particularly in medical malpractice cases, where the valuation of damages can be pivotal to the defense.

Jacob has a hands-on mentality to life, and a love for critical thinking. A lot of this developed from his time as a construction worker while he put himself through college. Jacob’s first-hand experience in construction taught him the value of hard work and gave him the necessary understanding of what goes on at the ground level, which is important in the context of complex construction law litigation.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
