Hired Attorney 2024-2025Review / Statement of Professional Conduct Concerns The undersigned has observed and experienced the professional conduct of attorney Jaye Ballard and submits the following for the record: 1. Unavailability and Lack of Client Access Mr. Ballard is consistently unavailable to clients outside of scheduled court appearances. He fails to maintain adequate communication channels, thereby depriving clients of the ability to consult counsel in a timely manner. 2. Self‑Directed Agenda Contrary to Client Interests Mr. Ballard routinely appears in proceedings with a predetermined agenda that is not aligned with the client’s stated objectives. His advice often runs counter to the client’s interests, and he has demonstrated a pattern of disregarding client directives. 3. Abandonment of Representation After providing advice adverse to client interests, Mr. Ballard has abandoned clients mid‑representation, leaving them without effective advocacy and in violation of his professional obligations under the Rules of Professional Conduct. 4. Unprofessional Conduct in Client Interactions Mr. Ballard has engaged in hostile and abusive behavior toward clients, including yelling and the use of profane language. Such conduct is inconsistent with the standards of professionalism expected of members of the bar. 5. Failure to Provide Documentation Mr. Ballard has failed to furnish clients with necessary documentation, filings, or records of proceedings. This omission obstructs clients’ ability to understand and participate in their own defense and contravenes duties of transparency and diligence. Systemic Concerns with 18‑B Representation As an 18‑B attorney, Mr. Ballard’s conduct exemplifies the vulnerabilities of the assigned counsel system: lack of oversight, inadequate accountability, and the potential for exploitation of indigent clients. His actions reflect not only individual misconduct but also systemic deficiencies in the administration of assigned counsel programs. Conclusion: Based on these observations, Mr. Ballard’s conduct demonstrates a pattern of neglect, hostility, and disregard for client interests. His actions are inconsistent with the ethical and professional standards required of attorneys and raise serious concerns regarding his fitness to provide competent representation. 1. Unavailability: Mr. Ballard was consistently inaccessible outside of court. I attempted to contact him for guidance and received no meaningful response, leaving me without counsel during critical stages of my case. 2. Adverse Advice: He advised me to take positions that were against my interests and disregarded my instructions. His representation reflected his own agenda rather than my defense. 3. Abandonment: After steering me toward adverse positions, Mr. Ballard effectively abandoned me, failing to provide advocacy or follow‑through, leaving me exposed in proceedings. 4. Hostile Conduct: In direct interactions, Mr. Ballard yelled at me, used profanity, and treated me with hostility. This behavior was unprofessional and undermined my trust in counsel. 5. Failure to Provide Documentation: Mr. Ballard did not furnish me with copies of filings, motions, or case records. As a result, I was deprived of the ability to understand or participate meaningfully in my own defense. 6. Systemic Concerns: His conduct exemplifies the vulnerabilities of the 18‑B system, where indigent clients are assigned counsel without adequate oversight. In my case, this resulted in neglect, hostility, and disregard for my rights. Conclusion: Based on my direct experience, Mr. Ballard’s representation was profoundly deficient. His actions caused me harm, deprived me of effective advocacy, and demonstrated conduct inconsistent with the ethical and professional standards required of attorneys. The worst you have been warned.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
