She received her license to practice law in New York in 1995 and later, in the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

Born in Chadron, Nebraska, Ms. Thompson-Tinsley completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science at the Long Island University Post in Greenvale, New York, in 1991. She obtained her doctorate in jurisprudence in 1994 from Brooklyn Law School, where she served as the articles editor of the Brooklyn Journal of International Law.

When it comes to serving her community and investing in her knowledge, Ms. Thompson-Tinsley leaves no stone unturned. Since 2009, she has been an adjunct professor at the Seton Hall University School of Law, where she teaches advanced trial advocacy to prospective lawyers. She is also a part of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy Deposition Skills program.

Ms. Thompson-Tinsley is a member of the Orange County Bar Association, the Dutchess County Bar Association and the Mid-Hudson Women's Bar Association.
