Overview
Mark R. Blaustein, Esq., CPA joined Futterman Lanza, LLP in December of 2023. Mark is known as a creative tax advisor and problem solver. Mark has a diversified practice where he assists clients in developing tax planning strategies that preserve wealth for his clients, formulates tax planning strategies for his clients that may sell a family business or assist clients in transferring a family business to the next generation. On the corporate side, Mark concentrates on commercial transactions, including the purchase, sale or restructuring of businesses, stock transactions, mergers and corporate agreements as well as advising clients on the tax aspects of such transactions. Mark is a dedicated advocate who resolves tax controversies before federal, state and local tax authorities at all stages of the administrative process, from audit, administrative appeals and litigation, if necessary. Mark advises clients on estate planning that involves wills, trusts, powers of attorney and healthcare directives. Following a death, Mark advises families on estate and trust administration issues including the related estate and trust administration and litigation that may follow in a contested estate or trust matter. Mark also assists clients with commercial and residential real estate transactions.
Prior to affiliating with Futterman Lanza, LLP, Mark served as the founder and managing partner of his own law firm (Mark R. Blaustein, P.C.) in Garden City, New York. Prior to that, Mark was a partner in Blaustein & Weinick, Esqs. in Garden City, New York. Mark started his legal career with Katz and Bernstein, Esqs. where he was a law clerk during law school, an associate after graduation from law school and then a partner at the firm. Mark also gained valuable experience at Peat Marwick Mitchell, a Big 8 accounting firm during college and thereafter. Mark has been called upon by members of the federal judiciary and the federal government to assist and represent them with personal matters involving their families’ estates.
With extensive and a broad range of experience over many years of practice as both a Certified Public Accountant and Attorney, Mark has successfully married these two professions in accounting and law to deliver exceptional guidance and service to his diversified clientele. Mark prides himself on his long-term and meaningful relationships with the individuals, families and businesses with whom he works and often finds himself advising them on all aspects of their personal, business and related estate planning and estate matters for generations.
Mark is an active member in both the legal and accounting communities and is a member of the New York State Bar Association, Nassau County Bar Association, and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. Mark is also a former Adjunct Professor of Business Law at Adelphi University, his alma mater where he taught for more than a decade. Mark works primarily in the firm’s Garden City office.
