Susan is a horrible attorney. She has the worst reviews and any good ones are friends and family. She should not being working with children at all. She is money hungry. She talks to kids in a way of putting the other parent down. She has caused my kids a lot of stress and trauma. And one day I will have a law suit against her! Look the other way. Do your research and if she is assigned to you get away fast. She is not ethical or professional. She will speak openly about it any case. She uses cps as a tool. She threatens, lies. She should loose her license asap and more people need to take action against her for their kids well being. She made matter worse. She would get a zero and a pray and hope one day she gets held accountable for all the children lives she ruined. Horrible human

She sold me a bill of lies. She doesn't charge much, but she did so many useless things that the charges sky rocketed over $50k and for nothing. I should've just split everything 50-50 with my ex-husband. I would've had a ton more money.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
