Overview

Laurie Malkin heads the Employment Law practice at Weinberg Zareh Malkin Price LLP.

Laurie represents investment firms, family offices, consumer products and service businesses, and not-for-profit organizations. She also advises executives navigating employment transitions. Her work focuses on advising on employment-related contracts, separation agreements, and restrictive covenants; workplace procedures and policies; employment discrimination and harassment law; and compensation matters, including wage and hour law.

Laurie serves as front-line human resources law counsel to organizations without their own sophisticated in-house capabilities. In this capacity, she advises on employee relations, collaborates with employers to create effective workplace policies, helps oversee outsourced relationships, and assists with organizational changes. Laurie frequently conducts sexual harassment prevention and other training programs, and she handles sensitive workplace investigations. She is an experienced litigator, representing clients in court, before administrative agencies, and in arbitration.

Laurie offers a practical, business-oriented perspective to workplace challenges, having spent substantial time working outside of law firms. Before joining Weinberg Zareh Malkin Price LLP, Laurie oversaw HR and operations for an investment advisor. She also was employment and partnership counsel at a leading financial services firm. Laurie spent the first twelve years of her legal career in private practice at major law firms in New York and Boston.

In addition, Laurie has experience working with and advising not-for-profit and educational institutions. She served as Legal and Operations Director for the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation. She lived in Beijing, where advised an international human resources and operational matters. Laurie currently serves on the Board of Directors and is the immediate past President of 826NYC, a writing-focused not-for-profit serving public school students.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
