Attorney Information

Overview

Ronald S. Pohl is the founding partner of the Pohl Law Group. He was the managing partner for 19 years at Rothfeld & Pohl, a boutique firm specializing in trusts and estates.

Previously, he managed the trusts and estates department at Lifshutz & Polland, and practiced trusts and estates, corporate and real estate law at Tannenbaum Dubin & Robinson.

Mr. Pohl's taxation expertise is augmented by his Certified Public Accountant credential.

His achievements have been recognized in various media. His zeal in promoting the undiscovered music of his elderly client Julius Burger-which is now played by orchestras worldwide-was profiled in The New York Times, Parade magazine, and by ABC News with Peter Jennings, which named him "Person of the Week". The book Legal Ethics in the Practice of Law, used in many law schools, features him as an example of an attorney "going the whole nine yards".
Mr. Pohl lectures on trusts and estates at accounting firms and law firms. He received his J.D. cum laude from Brooklyn Law School and a B.S. from Brooklyn College. He is a member of the Trusts and Estates Section of the New York State Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Mr. Pohl is a board member of the Interfaith Committee of Remembrance. A passionate oenophile, he has been inducted into the Commanderie de Bordeaux and other wine societies.

Your Profile?  Update Now

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
