Hired Law firm 2019-2020This lawyer did nothing for me as my lawyer. I felt like he was my ex husband lawyer. I have to go to a quad lawyer after and they could not believe what I lost after a 19 year marriage. I know I have learned during this experience regarding hiring a lawyer and what they SHOULD do for me. I do not suggest hiring this looser of a lawyer. He said he works on preparing for your case for a week before the court date, when we walked into court he had not looked and our info and had no idea what each other had. I had to hire my own realtor for an appraisal of our home. Very end of the court he said to judge that we both keep what we have for retirement and I had to interrupt (this was never discussed) and my ex husband lawyer said no she gets some of his retirement. I wanted all my files and asked Tim for them and he said they were pack away, I said how can that be we have not even had court yet. I have home a day to get my files together. I still wish I knew what he was making it has for me to get my files.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
