Tom was very kind and helpful. He put me at ease when we discussed my case. He had all the answers and explained them to me in a way I could understand.

I filed bankruptcy because of a brutal divorce that put me in a financial hole. Thomas was very respectful and walked through the process. He was always available when I had questions or just wanted a friendly ear. I couldn't have retained a better attorney. He eased my mind form the emotional and embarrassing struggle of claiming bankruptcy. Highly recommended.

I have never found it easy to choose a lawyer when in need, so when the subject of bankruptcy came up I was completely taken aback. On the advice of a friend, I called Tom Bauer and my fears and concerns were soon put to rest. Tom led me through the entire process so that I behaved in a confident manner. It was over before I knew it. Since then, I have consulted with Tom on a number of other unrelated issues and have always found him to be available, returning phone calls immediately, knowledgeable of the law, and generous with his time. The last time we spoke, I thanked him for spending time with me on the phone and his response was that he was "I'm here to help." I will readily admit that I believe that helping his client is Tom's highest priority. Steve F.

You will not find a better, more experienced and knowledgeable bankruptcy lawyer than Thomas Bauer. After researching a few area bankruptcy lawyers I found that Mr. Bauer had direct experience with the bankruptcy courts and trustees in his early law career. He applies this experience to each individual case he manages. More than that, he is very approachable, patient and thorough in considering the individual needs of his clients. After my first interaction with him I felt like I had a partner rather than more formal representative for my particular bankruptcy action. His fee is manageable and he was generous with his time in answering my many questions. I am very satisfied and urge anyone considering bankruptcy, especially during this difficult time with this terrible pandemic, to contact Mr. Bauer. He is very professional and yet he is both comforting and reassuring. Give him a call while you are looking for a very experienced and compassionate bankruptcy attorney.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
