Hired Law firm 2022Mr. Riotto and his team are outstanding. He is well-informed, quick to respond, knowledgeable, and courteous. He was there for me every step of the way, even though I had never dealt with any legal matters before. I had a wonderful experience working with the employees since they are incredibly professional and courteous. Throughout the case, Mr. Riotto was very open and honest with me. Overall, having him and his colleagues working on my case gave me a lot of peace of mind. If anyone required legal guidance, I would strongly suggest Riotto Law.

Hired Law firm 2020I hired Jim Riotto when I was pulled over for doing 55 in a 30, in Monroe County. From the time I called him to the time he got me his amazing result, he had me well informed the whole way and could not have been better. I really appreciate everything he did for me as I was looking at a possible license suspension based on my history. His office was just a pleasure to deal with from start to finish. I highly recommend him

Hired Law firm 2019-2020If you are looking to retain someone for a traffic ticket you should avoid this attorney at all costs. I paid him a retainer. He didn't review any paperwork and came back with an unacceptable deal. I asked for a copy of my file to see what he communicated to the court/prosecuting attorney. His assistant and then he refused, via phone, with him screaming at me. I sent an email saying I would not talk to him on the phone any more and asked that all communications be in writing so I had evidence of what he said. He resisted which made me nervous since an attorney should also want proof of his communications with clients; the emails protect him as much they protect me. After several refusals on my part to speak on the phone he exchanged emails with me in which he said he records all calls with clients and can prove that he wasn't screaming. If you check the Rules of Professional Conduct, recording one call with a client isn't a problem but wholesale recording of clients is (see: Michael Cohen). He refused to give me a copy of my file until I threatened to file a complaint against him. He made bold misrepresentations of the law, via email. Then because I wouldn't accept the plea agreement he wanted he quit which was a violation of the retainer agreement but hardly the most outrageous behavior from this man. My advice is to steer clear of this attorney. I don't know why his behavior is as erratic and unethical as it is but he is not stable in my opinion. Plenty of other lawyers can help you and you can avoid this headache. I am filing a grievance against him.

Consulted Law firm 2018-2019One of my friends advised me to contact "The Law Office of James Riotto" to handle a traffic violation. Lucky enough, I did and they were very patient despite the delay in court procedures and professionals to the utmost extent and most importantly they managed to cancel the violation completely

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
