Maria joins Bousquet Holstein with a unique background to represent both businesses and individuals that run them in the areas of business formation and structure, transactions and compliance, tax planning, strategy and advocacy, and business succession planning.
Maria’s passion for business and skill of problem solving enables her to identify unanticipated problems and offer unique solutions to meet her client’s needs within the confines of the legal, accounting, and tax regulations. Maria finds it especially important to take the time necessary to understand each client’s story and background to offer a diverse approach to business structure and manageable solutions to problems that build the foundation for a long-lasting client relationship.
After graduating summa cum laude with both her MBA and BS in Professional Accountancy from Le Moyne College, Maria became a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA). She began her professional career as an auditor at Ernst and Young, LLP where she represented national and international public and private clients in manufacturing, energy, utilities, retail, and real estate. Maria left public accounting to challenge herself to combine her accounting experience and her MBA in becoming the Controller and Director of Process Improvement for a Management Services Organization that served several related local and national companies that provided both B2B and B2C services in the legal industry. Maria’s passion for business and her desire to understand it deeper continued to grow while working in private industry, which lead to her decision to attend law school.
Maria graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse University College of Law in 2019 after extensively building on her past experiences to gain more knowledge by working both in international business and estate and business succession planning for entrepreneurs. While in law school, she worked at AIG Europe, Ltd. in London, England as a Legal, Compliance, and Regulatory intern, assisting the Regional Compliance Officer, Deputy Chief Compliance Officer, and General Counsel in creating compliance procedures and in the planning and strategy relating to Brexit and its impact on the company. Maria also worked at Baker & Hostetler LLP in Washington, DC as a Legal Extern in the Tax Group – Private Wealth, where she assisted in charitable and advanced estate planning for high-net-worth individuals, including assisting in the proper tax filing requirements for various trusts utilized by them.
While growing her business knowledge, Maria also found it important to grow academically. Maria served as a Research Assistant to Professor Robin Paul Malloy, where she conducted research relating to the intersection of real estate and disability law, along with law and economics. Maria also served as Legal Communications and Research Assistant to Professor Elizabeth August, an Associate Notes Editor of the Syracuse Law Review, and an Associate Member of the Advocacy Honor Society, she assisted students in improving their legal research, writing, and advocacy skills.
