Michael Tyszko represents businesses and individuals in the areas of business transactions, tax planning and advocacy, economic development incentives including tax credits under New York’s Brownfield Cleanup Program, and commercial litigation. As a former federal law clerk, Mike is an expert at legal research and writing. His research skills position him to see where the law presents challenges and opportunities for his clients, and his recognized writing ability provides the tools to advocate on their behalf. As a member of the firm’s litigation practice group, Mike has contributed to matters ranging from personal injury actions to complex commercial litigation and intellectual property disputes.

As a business attorney, Mike knows that cost-benefit analysis and a deep understanding of the numbers is critical to making wise choices in business. Working with the firm’s business and brownfields practice areas, Mike has developed expertise in a range of areas, including:

Working with entrepreneurs and established businesses from the start of new projects to choose entities and organizational structures that minimize risk and protect the client’s interests.
Creating transactional documents that are designed to accomplish the client’s goals while anticipating the universe of potential future problems.
Performing comparative analysis of alternative business opportunities in light of legal and economic considerations.
Representing business and individuals defending tax audits before the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.

Mike is a graduate of Syracuse University College of Law, magna cum laude, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Syracuse Law Review and was co-chair of the college’s pro bono advisory board. In law school, Mike received the Scribes Award for excellence in legal writing, and his law review note discussing defenses to copyright infringement was selected for publication by a panel of his peers.

Prior to joining the firm, Mike served as law clerk to the Honorable Frederick J. Scullin Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York. Mike earned his bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Michigan, where he was a Stamps Scholar. He is a Syracuse native.
