DO NOT WORK WITH THIS FIRM. They are NOT TRUSTED professionals. Clay Campbell and Marcellino & Tyson botched a lawsuit involving severe flooding and damage to our family home and then lied about it! Clay, the construction specialist, forgot to ask any of the 3 engineering experts a well-known correlation that must be made in all large stormwater cases; by missing this correlation, he set up the defendants’ ability to be dropped from the case. During one expert witness’ deposition that Clay scheduled, Clay told all of the parties at the beginning of the deposition that was hunting in the forest with his 13-year-old son; he was watching the deposition on a laptop in a tree! Because his attention was not fully on the deposition (which is reasonable when a child is holding a loaded rifle for the first time), he missed the critical needed wording. To make matters worse, after he found out from the defendants’ attorneys what he missed, he lied to us for 2 months about it. During mediation, he actually sided with the defendants taking all of us by surprise (with all of the defendants and their insurance companies present). He and his partner continued to lie when confronted by myself and an attorney friend of mine about why Clay’s position on the case had suddenly changed. It was only when I read the paperwork that the defendants were going to file on summary judgement to get out of the case, that I realized what he had missed and then hid and lied about. When confronted, he stated that he missed it. His error and lying forced us to drop the case. Refiling our case will cost us over $200,000 in fees with a new legal team and increasing health concerns from continued mold growth in our home.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
