Born in Brooklyn to a Jamaican immigrant family, he developed a passion for justice early on. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University with an engineering degree and earned his Juris Doctor from Duke University School of Law. He refined his trial advocacy at Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyers College and the National Criminal Defense College.
