Attorney Information
Overview
Jay has wanted to be an attorney from a very young age, even before graduating high school with honors. After graduating magna cum laude in college in Ohio, he moved to North Carolina to attend law school and pursue a legal career. Upon law school graduation in 2008, he moved to Greenville, North Carolina, where he has practiced law his entire career and still pleasantly finds himself to this day. During his tenure as an attorney, his professional efforts have been devoted to becoming an excellent family law attorney who is trusted by his clients to provide exceptional representation, while providing these services at reasonable fees. He finds himself continually growing as a zealous advocate for his clients to reach the best outcomes possible for each client.
Jay is fortunate enough to have a supportive wife, who he has dated since high school, married during the summer between college and law school, and cherished every day with since. He is blessed with a loving daughter, who certainly has her father wrapped around her finger. His puggle, Baleigh, who was adopted from a local pound in college, rounds out his family. He has enjoyed his years in Eastern North Carolina and look forward to his continued involvement in this community.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
