    Hired Attorney 2021-2022
First, he was paid in full for his lack of services and expertise. His strategy and negotiating skills were pitiful. He constantly overruled us on strategy until his strategy completely failed. The opposing attorneys ate him alive and manipulated him horribly. He acted more like a gopher for the opposing sides views than our advocate. It was extremely obvious that he was not good at what he was doing. We had an open and shut case that he couldn't close, constantly saying the other side was unreasonable. He rarely kept us informed. We had constantly requested copies of any paperwork which he rarely sent us any. He constantly overruled our opinions and requests. He rarely asked for our input until he was in a bind. Upon receiving the final bill and our demanding copies of the work product, he admitted he had none to forward, $70,000 later and nothing to show for it. He refused to bow out, while showing up to meetings when we asked him not to. At the last meeting, we fired him. He was getting eaten alive by opposing counsel and still refused to be open to a different strategy. We started and continued winning once we overruled all of his suggestions in the last four months. We completely won, and the game was over, when we fired him. The other side knew the fun was coming to an end and our representation going forward would be competent. We notice that his resume is awesome for only 12 years in the business. But, notice, that he has moved from firm to firm very frequently. That should say it all.

Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
