Attorney Information

Overview

Meet Associate Attorney: Demetris Neyland

I’ve always had a deep-rooted passion for fairness and a natural ability to connect with people. My approach with clients is down-to-earth, yet honest and direct—striking a balance between empathy and clarity.

Certified in Alternative Dispute Resolution, I regularly use my training to negotiate effectively with opposing counsel and parties. This helps clients reach favorable settlements without the need for costly litigation.

My background in legal analysis—specifically as a paralegal, jury consultant, and document review analyst—sharpened my ability to quickly process complex information and distill it into practical guidance. I excel at cutting through data to provide clear, informed strategies for my clients.

I’m also deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. During law school, I actively participated in several student organizations, including the Black Law Student Association, Hispanic Law Student Association, and Asian Pacific American Law Student Association. These experiences taught me to connect with people from all walks of life and strengthened my professional network—an invaluable resource when navigating clients' unique legal needs.

In addition to my legal training, I bring years of professional experience and a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications with a focus in Public Relations. This background has shaped my belief in the power of listening, building trust, and resolving conflict before it escalates. And when litigation is necessary, I advocate fiercely and fearlessly, because meaningful change requires bold voices and strong representation.

My Story

Demetris began her career as a Program Manager at the Mississippi State Housing Finance Agency, where she developed a deep understanding of systems, public policy, and the power of strategic change. There, she supported families across the state in achieving homeownership, overcoming financial obstacles, and accessing safe, affordable housing. She also collaborated with developers and government agencies to ensure full compliance with state and federal regulations.

Driven to do more, Demetris relocated to North Carolina and earned her Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University School of Law. Her legal career includes serving as a Researcher and Writer for Jury-X, where she worked to identify implicit bias in jury selection to support plaintiffs in litigation. She also gained valuable experience as a Document Review Analyst for global eDiscovery firms, sharpening her skills in complex legal analysis and issue-spotting.

Before becoming a licensed attorney, Demetris played a key role at Piedmont Eastern Litigation as its senior paralegal and firm administrator. Today, she brings not only legal acumen and experience, but also warmth and empathy to her work as an attorney. Whether guiding clients through deeply personal family law matters or navigating complex legal challenges, she delivers representation that is both strategic and sincere.

When she's not advocating for her clients, you’ll find her enjoying live entertainment or embracing the great outdoors.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
