Russell M. Racine joined Dean Gibson Hofer & Nance, PLLC in February 2012. His practice focuses primarily on general civil litigation and insurance defense. Russ is a member of the North Carolina, South Carolina, and Colorado Bar associations. He is also licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Originally from Spartanburg, South Carolina, Russ attended Muhlenburg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Natural Science, he worked as a chemist for three years before attending law school. In 1999, Russ received his J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law, in Denver, Colorado. While in law school, he was a member of the moot court team and clerked for an intellectual property law firm.
Following graduation, Russ worked as an assistant solicitor in Spartanburg, South Carolina, for three years. During that time, he conducted numerous felony and misdemeanor jury trials, negotiated and presented guilty pleas, and participated in the development of Drug Court.
Russ relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2004. For the next seven years, he devoted his practice to intellectual property and business litigation. As part of that practice, he represented clients in litigations in multiple jurisdictions including North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, California, and Texas. His litigations also included representing businesses in opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and Internet domain disputes before the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. Russ also counseled clients regarding protection of intellectual property, and drafted and prosecuted patent applications at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Additionally, he has litigated home construction defects, business matters, including unfair and deceptive trade practices, South Carolina lemon law violations, and personal injury cases involving motor vehicles and construction accidents.
Russ is a Certified DRC Mediator and conducts Superior Court mediation settlement conferences for all types of cases.
