Consulted Attorney 2022-2024am filing this grievance against Jeff Siehl, Esq., Counsel for Caring Transitions, for unprofessional conduct, misrepresentation of legal authority, and violation of ethical obligations under the Rules of Professional Conduct. Following several communications regarding an ongoing dispute between myself and Caring Transitions, I notified Mr. Siehl that I am representing myself at this time, with legal counsel present only for guidance and oversight. Despite that clear statement — made on at least three separate occasions — Mr. Siehl repeatedly refused to communicate with me directly. In one exchange, Mr. Siehl expressly stated that he “cannot” or “will not” speak with me without my attorney present. When I clarified that I was acting pro se, he responded that such an arrangement “doesn’t work” for him. This constitutes an attempt to limit my lawful right to self-representation and a refusal to communicate in good faith regarding an active legal dispute. Mr. Siehl’s conduct demonstrates a disregard for professional ethics, including honesty, diligence, and fairness in dealing with unrepresented or self-represented parties. His refusal to communicate has caused unnecessary delay, frustration, and further escalation of a matter that could have been addressed informally.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
