Attorney Information

Overview

Bryn Ericksen combines her background in mechanical engineering with her legal training to counsel clients on protecting and leveraging their intellectual property. She focuses her practice on patents and related IP strategies, drawing on both her technical insight and her experience assisting businesses with legal and compliance needs.

Bryn earned her J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, where she served as Vice President of the Intellectual Property Law Club and authored an article that appeared in The University of Cincinnati Intellectual Property and Computer Law Journal (“That’s Going to Leave a Mark: The Effect of Trademark Law on Colleges and Universities,” Volume 8, Issue 1; February 6, 2023). In law school, Bryn gained valuable client-facing experience through UC’s Entrepreneurship and Community Development Clinic, assisting small businesses with transactional and compliance matters. She also externed with the University of Cincinnati’s Office of Innovation, where she conducted prior art searches, reviewed inventions, and supported technology transfer efforts—an experience that confirmed her commitment to patent law.

Before law school, Bryn earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University. Her technical experience includes designing a medical device prototype as part of her senior capstone project and working as a full-time engineering co-op at Meyer Tool Inc., where she collaborated with engineers on production processes. This blend of engineering and legal training enables her to evaluate innovations from both technical and regulatory perspectives.

A former Division I varsity swimmer, Bryn brings discipline, perseverance, and focus to her practice. At Wood Herron & Evans, she works with innovators, entrepreneurs, and companies of all sizes to safeguard their intellectual property and support their growth.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
