Attorney Information
Overview
Erinn McKee Hannigan is an Honors College graduate of Ball State University and received her law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2002. She earned a Certificate of Childlaw from Loyola by centering her legal studies in the areas of child and family law. She was admitted to the North Carolina bar in 2002 and the Ohio bar in 2006.
Erinn works hard to help guide her clients towards their new normal. She understands that navigating family law issues can be very difficult. She works with her clients to advise them towards an outcome that is both equitable and reasonable.
Erinn is a bit unique in that she chose to attend law school for the sole purpose of becoming a domestic relations attorney. She has a limited scope practice dedicated to all issues arising in a domestic relations case. In January of 2018 after almost 20 years as a litigator; Erinn left litigation behind and works exclusively as a Peacemaker; assisting clients with their family law matters through out of court settlement processes including mediation, collaboration and standard negotiation. She still works within the court system as an attorney for children, a Guardian ad Litem and as a court appointed Parenting Coordinator. Erinn was trained in family law arbitration in North Carolina in 2004; collaborative practice in 2008; domestic relations mediation in 2011; GAL in 2018 and Parenting Coordination in 2018.
Erinn served as the co-chair of the Cincinnati Academy of Collaborative Professionals previously. Erinn is an educator as a part of the Ohio Supreme Court Faculty for Guardians ad Litem and as a member of the Institute for Family Conflict Resolution as a trainer for introductory and advanced education for collaborative professionals across the United States and beyond.
Erinn is a member of the Domestic Relations Section of the Cincinnati Bar Association, the Ohio Bar Association, the North Carolina Bar Association, the Association of Family and Conciliatory Courts and the International Association of Collaborative Professionals. Erinn is consistently named as a Superlawyer in Ohio since 2007, was named as one of the Top 25 Women Lawyers in Cincinnati in 2016 and 2019 - 2022, Top 50 Superlawyers in Cincinnati in 2019 - 2022 and Top 50 Women Lawyers in Ohio in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
