Overview

Michael Cook is an associate with Cohen Todd Criminal Defense with a particular concentration in criminal defense and civil litigation.

Michael grew up in Blue Ash, Ohio. He is an alumnus of St. Xavier High School, Xavier University, and the University of Cincinnati College of Law.

Michael’s experience with criminal law started before joining Cohen Todd. Michael served as the Assistant Law Director for the City of Norwood, where he was the prosecuting attorney for the Norwood Mayor’s Court. This experience gives him insight into how prosecutors think.

Also, if you or someone you know has already been convicted of a crime, Michael can help. He has experience with the process of sentence reduction through judicial release and the sealing of criminal records.

Additionally, Michael has experience in gun rights litigation, specifically Ohio’s relief-from-weapons-disability statute. He has protected his clients from the government’s attempt to bar them from owning a firearm. Michael secured court orders restoring his clients’ Second Amendment right to own, use, and possess firearms. In the words of one of his clients:

There is not a day that goes by that I'm not grateful for your help. I carry every day. My wife and kids are in the process of getting training to conceal carry. They would not have felt comfortable doing that if I did not have my rights restored.

Whether you have been cited for a traffic violation in a mayor’s court or you would like your right to bear arms restored, Michael and the lawyers at Cohen Todd Criminal Defense may be able to help. You can reach Michael at any time necessary on 513-333-5230.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
