Overview

Bob Cassity focuses his practice on patent preparation and prosecution, artificial intelligence technologies, software and computer-related inventions, and intellectual property strategy. He brings a unique combination of private practice, litigation, prosecution, and government experience, including leadership roles within the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Prior to joining the firm, Bob served as a Patent Attorney and Quality Assurance Specialist with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where he helped draft and deliver USPTO artificial intelligence subject matter eligibility policy and examples in response to a White House Executive Order. He trained and managed patent examiners working in artificial intelligence and quantum computing technologies and served as a legal, practice, and procedure expert for software and AI-related inventions.

Bob has extensive experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, quantum computing, biotechnology, computer architecture, and software technologies. His work has included patent drafting and prosecution, freedom-to-operate and infringement analyses, portfolio development and management, licensing matters, and strategic intellectual property counseling for companies ranging from startups and individual inventors to Fortune 100 businesses.

In addition to his prosecution practice, Bob has significant litigation and business counseling experience. Earlier in his career, he served as a partner at Cassity|Brazinski, LLC and as Of Counsel with The Wolfe Practice, LPA, where he represented clients in litigation matters, negotiated technology-related agreements, managed intellectual property portfolios, and advised businesses on intellectual property strategy, regulatory compliance, and emerging technologies.

Bob is also an active speaker and educator on intellectual property and artificial intelligence issues. He has developed and led training programs on AI patentability standards, court decisions, and patent prosecution topics for patent examiners and industry professionals.
