Overview

After eleven years representing individuals and families in civil litigation matters, John Calabrese joins Cavitch, Familo & Durkin as a Shareholder in their business litigation practice group. His national litigation practice focuses on representing individual and business clients in complex commercial and business tort actions, shareholder litigation cases, construction defects, insurance disputes, breach of contract claims, employment and compensation matters, conversion of property, and probate/will contests.

John has extensive trial experience trying cases before judges and juries. Additionally, he has successfully briefed and argued multiple appellate claims before the Eighth District Court of Appeals and has navigated and handled complex administrative and regulatory matters on behalf of clients. John brings extensive experience to Cavitch to assist individuals, employers and businesses develop and improve communications, increase efficiencies, and decrease litigation risks through an analytical and innovated approach to the specific needs of his clients. In collaboration with clients to understand their goals and objectives, John is able to assess risks and devise strategic plans to guide and promote advantageous outcomes through dispute resolution and out of court solutions. If resolution requires litigation, John and the Cavitch team of lawyers stand ready and prepared to aggressively assert your interests and advocate on your behalf.

Cleveland has undeniably become home for John and his two golden retrievers, Rigley and Cru. He is a proud Cleveland resident and actively engaged within the greater Cleveland community and Tremont neighborhood where he resides. John grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania, attended Cathedral Preparatory Catholic High School, and shares a great relationship with the Erie community, most importantly his loving family and lifelong friendships. Often remembered as an avid nationally ranked junior golfer, he now enjoys the fun and camaraderie of the game of golf as a member of The Kahkwa Club. He attended Florida Gulf Coast University, in Fort Myers, Florida, for his undergraduate education earning a degree in finance and minor in economics. John remains connected with FGCU and the southwest Florida community visiting his home and interacting with friends and neighbors in the area. After returning north to Cleveland, Ohio, he earned his law degree at Cleveland State University College of Law. John has been involved in many Cleveland-area civic organizations and currently serves on the CSU Law Alumni Association Board of Trustees. He ascended to President of the Board of Trustees during 2019-2020 and remains active in the organization.
