Michael Halberstam - Cleveland, OH

Michael Halberstam’s experience includes civil rights; employment and whistleblower litigation; political law; voting rights; corporate, civil, and securities litigation; and corporate compliance.

He has litigated in federal district court and in bankruptcy court, conducted corporate internal investigations, managed large-scale electronic discovery, participated in large-scale billion-dollar multi-district litigation, and served as a legal expert on provisions of U.S. federal civil procedure in a number of foreign securities class actions.

After graduating from Stanford Law School, where he was an articles editor on the Stanford Law Review, Michael clerked for Tom Griesa, the former Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.

He then joined the litigation department of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton, and Garrison as an associate in New York City.

After practicing for several years, Michael became a fellow at Columbia Law School’s Center for Law and Economic Studies, and then Associate Professor of Law at SUNY Buffalo Law School, where he also was the Director of the Center for Law and Democracy.

Michael is the author of a book and numerous articles, including articles in the Election Law Journal, the Emory Law Journal, the Northwestern Law Review, the Connecticut Law Review, the Seattle Law Review, and Law and Social Inquiry. He has edited two volumes of the Election Law Journal, one on redistricting, the other on the intersection of campaign finance and lobbying regulations. Michael sits on the editorial board of the Election Law Journal.

Michael also earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Yale University.

He is admitted to practice law in Ohio and New York.
