Hired Law firm 2018-2021I knew Mark from his involvement with the Ohio State football saturdays at Ohio Stadium. I since when on to compete professionally and am now a team scout and coordinator. I was in financial distress, and it is difficult to think clearly and make good decisions . That, in addition to not understanding a legal process complicates matters even more. When I first contacted him, Mark explained the law, outlined in clear language the steps in the process that needed to be done. He was knowledgable as well. I was served on Christmas Eve with a summons for another matter and I did not seriously expect a return call from the office until Monday. Mark called me back on Christmas Day. This is remarkable in todays world. He is also a busy piano player during the holiday seasons, but he still called me and shared his time with me. I am most impressed with this type of work ethic. Thank you again, and Merry Christmas to Mark!

Hired Law firm 2010True care and concern from Mark Herder and his assistant Bethany. I hired this office for my bankruptcy several years ago and have stabilized my finances since then. I had a suspended drivers license and they were able to wipe out the fees from the B.MV. I now am a proud home owner and realize that his office was a real asset to me.

Hired Law firm 2018I've been through two Chapter 7 bankruptcies. The first one I did all the paperwork through an online kit. Don't do that unless your situation is fairly simple and you can't get the money for a lawyer. It turned out to be a huge disaster. The second one, I hired this law office -- I had friends go through bankruptcies and make huge and costly mistakes, and I then found out about his office from a friend at church. During my research, I learned that most bankruptcy attorneys are like used car salesmen and treat their customers like suckers. Don't be a sucker. Based upon my urgent situation, he actually called me back even before visiting his office, and his office is on the ball. At court, every other lawyer who came to the Trustee meeting had made mistakes in their paperwork and got called out on it. His office has simple pricing and no hidden or extra costs. He does not nickel-and-dime you from a laundry list of "possible" additional charges, such as credit reports or the counseling classes. I received my official discharge last year, am very pleased with the process and am receiving numerous offers to reestablish my credit.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
