Layne became a lawyer for one simple reason: to advocate for those who could not advocate for themselves. Throughout her career, she has sought to do just that – from representing class consumer cases involving small amounts of money, to representing people who suffer from debilitating and life-threatening injuries as a product of corporate greed.

This desire to advocate for others has led Layne to represent a wide swath of clients – from insurance companies and managed care organizations; to consumers and average people who have been harmed by defective products. Layne has pursued cases that involve antitrust violations, the Racketeering Influence and Corrupt Organizations (“RICO”) Act, and various state law claims. She takes tremendous pride in developing of new and novel legal approaches to resolve the issues and problems that plague her clients. Layne is also a tireless litigator. During the Coronavirus Pandemic, Layne took weeks of depositions of foreign nationals located in China and India over zoom. These depositions frequently did not begin until dinnertime and lasted into overnight hours.

Layne is currently representing clients in the Paraquat, and Uber Sexual Assault multi-district litigation. She also serves on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee of the In re Valsartan, Losartan, and Irbesartan Products Liability Litigation. As part of that litigation, she serves as the co-chair of the Consumer Class Action committee and is a member of the discovery committee. In addition to her products liability work, Layne also has significant experience representing clients in class action cases and is currently representing several classes of Plaintiffs in data breach lawsuits in both Louisiana and throughout the country.

Layne attended Mount Holyoke College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in British Literature. She later went on to obtain her law degree from Emory University School of Law.

Layne is a member of the Louisiana Bar Association, New Orleans Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, and the Louisiana Association for Justice. As part of the American Association of Justice, Layne has been appointed to serve on the Law School Committee, the International Law Committee, and the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Layne is a coordinator for the American Association of Justice’s Student Trial Advocacy Competition.

Layne is also an active participant in her community. She is involved in her local neighborhood association and assists high school students in their college application process. In her free time, she enjoys reading, conducting genealogical research, and attending the many music and arts festivals New Orleans offers throughout the year.
