Attorney Information

Overview

Greg Porter was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School in Middletown and then successfully completed Ohio's Firefighter Training Program. Afterwards, he found a call to serve his country and joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves. Fresh out of basic and combat training, Greg began his studies at the University of Cincinnati. In his third year of college, his studies were put on hold when he was called to serve a tour of duty in Iraq. Upon returning from active duty, he finished his Bachelor's degree. He then obtained his Juris Doctor from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio and was admitted to the practice of law in the State of Ohio. Greg also was admitted to practice in the U.S. Federal Court, Southern District of Ohio.

Greg joined Rodríguez & Associates as an attorney in 2012 and became a named partner of Rodríguez & Porter in 2015. Greg focuses his practice exclusively on civil cases, including Domestic Relations and Juvenile Court cases such as Domestic Violence Protection Orders, Civil Stalking Protection Orders, Custody, Visitation, Abuse, Child Support, Special Immigrant Juvenile Relief Status, (SIJS) Dissolution and Divorce. He also focuses on civil litigation, where his clients range from small businesses, he defends against lawsuits, to subcontractors, with construction issues.

Greg has also represented numerous clients in front of local and state administrative agencies, including the Ohio State Board of Education and the Ohio Department of Liquor Control. He has succeeded for his clients in several civil lawsuits through a legal mechanism known as Summary Judgment, saving his clients thousands of dollars by prevailing long before trial expenses are incurred.

Outside of court, Greg spends time with his wife, their three boys and their pack of four dogs. Over the years, Greg has coached many baseball and basketball teams in Fairfield; and is his sons' #1 fan at all their many sporting events. Greg also stays active in local government, having served three years on Fairfield's Zoning Board and serving as a teacher on the Butler County Notary Committee.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
