Overview

Craig P. Treneff is a graduate of the Ohio State University and Capital University Law School, where he was elected to Law Review. Prior to entering private practice in 1983, he was judicial law clerk to Justice William B. Brown of the Ohio Supreme Court and served as chief legislative assistant to the Chairman of the Finance Appropriations Committee of the Ohio House of Representatives.

He was one of the first 50 lawyers in Ohio to be certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as a family relations specialist. In addition, he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, past President of the AAML Ohio Chapter, and a member of the family law committees of the Columbus, Delaware County, Ohio State and American Bar Associations. Mr. Treneff has been a regular contributor to and Editorial Board member of the Domestic Relations Journal of Ohio and contributor to the Baldwin's Ohio Domestic Relations Law treatise ("Marital and Separate Property’). He was selected as an Ohio Super Lawyer each year since 2004 and was included in The Best Lawyers in America since 2014. He was also selected as the Lawyer of the Year for 2019, 2023 and 2025 by Best Lawyers in America for Family Law for Columbus, Ohio. He has been selected as one of the top 50 Columbus lawyers since 2010 and as one of the top 5 Columbus lawyers since 2014 by Ohio Super Lawyers. He was also peer rated by Ohio Super Lawyers as one of the Top 10 lawyers in Ohio since 2016. Mr. Treneff is certified as an Arbitrator by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and has completed basic mediation training (16 hours), domestic relations mediation training (40 hours), and domestic abuse issues training (14 hours).

Mr. Treneff has been actively involved in the community and served as a member of the Westerville, Ohio, City Council 2004-2023 and served as Chairman of Council & Mayor. He has been honored "Westerville Champion," the city's highest award. He was a Member and past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) 2013-2024. He has previously served as President of the Board of Trustees of Directions for Youth and Families, Chairman of the Capital Campaign Planning Committee of Directions for Youth and Families, Member and Chairman of the Westerville Planning Commission, and Member of the Westerville Board of Zoning Appeals. He also has been a member of the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission and President of the Central Ohio Municipal Alliance.

Mr. Treneff is a recipient of Martindale-Hubbell’s highest rating, AV* for outstanding legal ability and ethical standards. He also has a 10.0 "Superb" rating on AVVO.
