Consulted Attorney 2024Amanda Dockery is the exact type of attorney, that forces people like me to choose to return to their long-term, toxic relationships, even though they know they will just end up right back in the same situation sooner or later. She admittedly does not give women the warm fuzzy feeling that they will eventually be okay when this is all said and done, so if you are not in need of any reassurance, then she is you're gal! She gives the impression that it has never even crossed her mind, that women of domestic violence and abuse, are not already walking into her office shaking with fear because they are so scared of what will be done to them next. She doesn't not portray an ounce of sympathy to the person sitting across form her that has just been used andn abused and is now faced with losing their home, transportation, and now could lose their children too, after they've already lost their career, family, friends, reputation. She finds it a waste of time, to make sure you don't lose every single thing you've ever worked for in their entire life. In fact, she even pointedly said in our consultation, that at a rate of $350.00/hr, one should focus on things that are worth more value, such as the two new trucks, and the house, because things like the camper, motorcycle, trailers, four wheelers, and boat, are not worth more than $5,000 each, so they weren't worth her time. I would be surprised how fast a $3,500 retainer would be used up at a rate of $350/hr (as if I didn't pass 3rd grade math). But then she went on to say later that even after focusing on the house, the judge would still make me give him 1/2 the equity in it, even though he said he didn't want to fight over the house, because he knew he didn't contribute to the purchasing of the home and maybe only paid 5 of the mortgage payments on it ever, so he wasn't going to fight me on it.... well isn't that swell?! I left there not knowing if she was going to represent him or me? I know I am on a tight timeframe, but I would rather be a fool of a client by submitting my own response to the petition, than hire her. My advice, if you are a woman, looking to hire a female attorney because you think she might be able to look at the case from your prospevtive and work harder at winning you the things you and your children deserve, than you need to keep looking, because Amanda Dockery is not it!

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
