Attorney Information

Overview

Jana’s client-centered practice focuses on estate planning, estate and trust administration, probate, and transactional business law.

Prior to Chenoweth Law Group LLC, Jana worked as general counsel in start-up business and in her own firm specializing in transactional entertainment, business law, and intellectual property law in Los Angeles. After moving to Portland, Jana worked in an estate planning firm and found her passion for counseling clients regarding estate planning and administration.

Jana enjoys working with individuals and families to craft solid estate plans to ensure their loved ones receive their intended gifts upon passing while avoiding family disputes over distributions. Jana counsels clients on strategies to minimize taxes and protect and conserve assets. Jana takes great care to clearly communicate her advice to clients, while firmly believing it's just as important to listen to clients as it is to advise them. She has a passion for clarity and plain-language agreements to ensure her clients understand any proposed plan or action.

Estate planning is a sensitive area of law and Jana’s compassionate yet direct approach helps put people at ease when discussing money and delicate family matters.

Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
