Overview

With nearly 20 years' experience as a creative problem solver, Christopher M. McLean is a shareholder in the Firm's Real Estate, Land Use & Development and Corporate, Business & Banking groups. Throughout his career, Mr. McLean has been responsible for the negotiation of complex business, loan and real estate transactions, including a wide variety of transaction documents. He regularly represents clients in front of government agencies and municipal governing bodies in connection with land use and entitlements for real estate projects. He counts businesses of all sizes as his clients, from Fortune 500 retailers and builders to local builders and developers. In addition, he works with personal clients on all aspects of estate planning, including the preparation of wills, trusts, powers of attorney and health care directives (living wills) and administration of estates and trusts.

Mr. McLean takes a practical, common sense approach to the challenges that face his clients, working toward the most efficient outcome without overcomplicating or "overlawyering" the matter. His clients have recognized his practical, insightful solutions and value his in-depth knowledge of the law.

Mr. McLean is a member of the Board of Directors of Ripple Community, Inc. and President the Board of Directors of Ripple's newly formed RCI Village. He is able to translate his real estate and corporate experience to assist the Boards in fulfilling their purpose of providing housing stability. RCI Village's purpose is to provide safe, stable, affordable housing, and support and connections that residents need to achieve long-term housing and life stability.

A native to the Lehigh Valley, Mr. McLean understands the marketplace and unique qualities of doing business here. When not in his hometown of Zionsville, he can likely be found on the beaches of Florida or the Caribbean islands, collecting shells and humming "Margaritaville".

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
