Attorney Information

Overview

Nicole Thurner is a partner with the firm of Sinatra & Istik Law Office, PLLC. She believes that people reach out to her for help during the most difficult times of their lives, and she's dedicated her practice to solving those problems efficiently and effectively, while treating each client with compassion and understanding. Nicole believes that her job is to remove the emotional component associated with the types of cases she takes. It is important to Nicole that her clients trust her to take care of them, so they can concentrate on caring for themselves and their families through this difficult time.

Nicole's practice focuses on:

1. All matters related to family law, including custody and visitation (including third-party rights such as grandparents' rights), divorce, the preparation of prenuptial and antenuptial agreements, child support and spousal support, protection from abuse matters, termination of parental rights, and adoptions.

2. Juvenile Dependency law, representing parents and other family members involved in Children and Youth Services matters. Nicole's practice involves parent advocacy, child advocacy, and serving as the conflict counsel Solicitor for the Butler County Children and Youth Services Agency. Because of Nicole's wide range of experience in these areas, she is skilled in knowing and understanding the nuances of Juvenile Dependency, and the consequences of failing to have adequate representation from day one.

3. Estate planning, including preparing Last Wills and Testaments, Durable Financial Powers of Attorney, Durable Healthcare Powers of Attorney (Livings Wills), and Revocable and Irrevocable Trusts.

4. Estate Administration, including preparing and filing inheritance tax returns and assisting the estate's executor or administrator in probating and administering the estate.

Prior to joining Sinatra & Istik Law Office, PLLC, Nicole spent two years as a partner with her fiancé at Bench Law, Limited. Prior to that, she owned and operated her own practice for several years. Nicole began her career by serving as law clerk to the Honorable Kelley T.D. Streib in Butler County, where she gained a knowledge and understanding of the inner workings of the legal system from the side of the Court.

Nicole earned a B.A. in Sociology with a minor in Studio Art from The Ohio State University, and her J.D. from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.

Nicole is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Butler County Bar Association. She is admitted to practice in all Ohio courts, Pennsylvania courts, and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. She lives with her fiancé in Center Township, Butler County.

When she's not working for her clients, Nicole is a member of the Butler A.M. Rotary, is a member of the Executive Committee of the Butler County Bar Association, and coaches middle school girls' soccer for the Knoch School District in southern Butler County. When she's not volunteering, she enjoys spending time with her fiancé and their two dogs, Howie and Luna, who have become beloved members of the members of the Sinatra & Istik Law Office, PLLC family.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
