    Hired Attorney 2019-2021
I had the misfortune of hiring Kim Litzke a few years back. She was completely unprepared for court, and I even smelled liquor on her breath, in court, at 9 a.m. in the morning, incredible. The opposing attorney ate her lunch, and over a 2 year period, I lost EVERY SINGLE HEARING, resulting in the loss of joint custody. Now I see my kids every third weekend, instead of 50/50 custody. For this terrible performance, I paid over $150,000! If you are sold on her firm, Eastburn and Grey, great, but if they assign you to Kim Litzke, you would be much better off asking them for another attorney. I don't want to see another parent lose the right to see their children, like I have.

    Consulted Attorney 2022
My friend hired this woman to help her with a custody issue and she did not represent her at all. The father they went up against had multiple gun, alcohol and mental health related issues in his extensive criminal history. He was on probation when custody negotiations started. He is well known by the police in his community. He had multiple domestic violence incidents on his record and even some in front of his children. This "lawyer" ignored all of that. She even ignored the 20+ page report from the court appointed mental health evaluation that did he should not have more time with his children. She refused to push for what would protect the children all under the age of 10, and browbeat my friend for 6 hours into signing a document that gave the "father" more access to these beautiful children. How is that right?! She is a horrible lawyer who is obviously out to get money and should not be anywhere near family law. God help her if something happens to those poor babies.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
