Hired Attorney 2018-2022I've hired Matthew Kopecki on more than one occasion to represent me. He does not mess around or make promises that will not happen. Matt will do whatever it takes to get you the best result possible. His prices are reasonable and he is very easy to work with.

Hired Attorney 2017-2021I hired Matt to represent me in a family court issue with my child's mother. He made a number of promises including to get me a custody agreement that would last a few years before needed modification. After 2+ years we FINALLY made it into court and when I received the written copy of the custody order to review and sign, it did not contain many of the promises Matt made. When I questioned the order (Including provisions the mother wanted AFTER the agreement was read into the court order) Matt got upset with me and told me to sign it or he quit and I would have nothing to show for 2+ years of waiting and all the money I paid him would be lost. He then sent me a bill and gave me 30 days to pay. When I questioned the bill he immediately sent my bill to collections. He is a bully with a law degree.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
