Attorney Information
Overview
JJ Gismondi is of counsel to Phillips Froetschel and an associate at Gismondi & Associates. At both firms, JJ’s practice is devoted entirely to representing injured people in cases involving medical malpractice, motor vehicle collisions, premises liability, and other forms of negligence. He recognizes that navigating these matters can often feel overwhelming for clients who have gone through life-changing circumstances and therefore strives to make the process as simple and easy to understand as possible.
Prior to his admission to practice, JJ was a certified legal intern in the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office, which allowed him to appear in court on behalf of the Commonwealth in numerous types of proceedings including preliminary hearings, suppression hearings, and guilty plea hearings. He also interned at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania and further interned for multiple judges in Pittsburgh at both the federal and state trial court levels.
JJ earned his J.D. cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and was deemed eligible for election to the Order of the Coif for being in the top 10-percent of his class. He was a member of the University of Pittsburgh Law Review and served as an Executive Editor for the journal during his final year in school. He won Pitt Law’s Moot Court Appellate Competition in 2023 involving submission of an appellate brief and numerous rounds of oral advocacy that culminated in a final round before a panel composed of Pennsylvania state and federal appellate judges. He also received the CALI Award for Future Excellence in the Expert Witness course. He received his undergraduate degree summa cum laude in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
