Hired Attorney 2021I absolutely do not recommend retaining this attorney. I am an attorney myself and would never treat a client like this. We (my husband, mother-in-law, and I) retained Mr. Turturice after a recommendation from a fellow lawyer. However, after paying the retainer and copying all of our paperwork and dropping it off at his office, he never followed up once on the case. After speaking to him after several weeks had gone by, he had no information, but said he would email me at the end of the week. Never heard from him again. After a few weeks, I called just to ask what the status was and was told he would get back to me. Called a week after that after hearing nothing. Was told the same thing. Made two or three additional calls and never spoke to him. After telling his assistant that I was an attorney and was growing inpatient with no responses from him (all I wanted to know was if there were any status updates), his assistant scheduled a phone meeting with us. We were on vacation, but wanted to meet with him regardless because of how important it was for us to keep an appointment (and because we would all be together and he insisted that all three of us be on the phone for the meeting). Less than an hour before the appointment, he canceled last-minute (due to our own unforeseen circumstances, we were leaving vacation that day and had waited to get on the road until after our appointment with him, which was scheduled at 10AM). His assistant told us he was in trial. When we spoke again a few minutes later, she said he had a family emergency, totally inconsistent with what she originally said. During that latter conversation, she indicated he would be returning our retainer. She said it would be in the mail the following week. I called that following Friday and she said she did not know when it would be sent out and had not yet done so. Extremely disappointed in this attorney's "services." If he did not want to take the case, he should not have taken it after consulting with us. Completely unprofessionalism.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
