Hired Law firm 2014My daughter fired this law firm 5 years ago! She never could get past the aweful person who answered the phone! He called her a low life, he told her she would lose her kids if She fired them. He intimidated her to stay as long as she did. He actually said more things that are worse then that but wouldn’t want to put on here. This was a simple case and this law firm charged my daughter 5000 and she paid!and they filed unnecessary paperwork and when I would call and ask a question the person would verbally put her down. So I told her to fired them and she did! When she went to court by herself she settled for everything She wanted with the other lawyer for nothing. ( that’s how simple of a case it was) 5 years later they said She didn’t give them the proper paper work and are charging not only my daughter but me her mother over 6000. No one needs to put up with verbal abuse like that and then turn around and 5 years later ask for more money!

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
