    Hired Attorney 2021-2023
Dean Burnetti, claims to represent God and you. He needs to change his slogan. After giving him all of my personal information. He said I had 2 medical malpractice cases. I sent him a 3rd case that he said he would use as his trump card if my case went to trial. I was informed that the the defendants had 90 day's to respond. At same time he sent the letter of intent to sue to the defendants. He had another attorney send me a certiffied letter using his letterhead stating he was unable to represent me in my claim. Burnetti had been representing me nearly 2 years. I signed a contract with him. The letter I received was a letter to a potential client. I signed a contract with Burnetti. Which meant I was already his client. He filed a notice of intent to sue with the courts, which the defendant did not contest. He still has not notified me as to the results of my case. I'm left to believe he settled out of court. And kept the settlement. He closed the case with the courts so there's no record. He still has not dropped my case. I still not have not been represented doesn't this attorney have an obligation to me as a client?

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
