Verified ClientHired Law firm 2022Kelley and his staff are very knowledgeable in the area of Elder Law. We had a very complicated estate plan, and they worked very diligently to get all of the details documented to help us avoid as much estate tax as possible, and pass on a thriving legacy to our children and grandchildren. I would highly recommend them to anyone with estate planning needs, as this is their specialty!

Verified ClientHired Law firm 2021-2022Great experience probating my fathers estate. Kelley worked on my case and she was fantastic. Everything went smoothly and swiftly, even given the obvious delays that Covid has caused in the court system and everywhere else. The process was very streamlined and he was always available and prompt to reply to any questions or concerns I had along the way. Dealing with the loss of a loved one and also bearing the responsibility of being an executor is one of the harder things in life to endure, but Kelley gave me some peace of mind every step of the way. For that I am Grateful. Thank you!

Hired Law firm 2025Where to start! This firm was truly unbelievable. The way they handled my case was so unprofessional. I used my MetLife legal plan, and they dropped my case the day my discovery was due! Didn't say anything to me. I called for something else and found this out, then got it fixed. MetLife was covering my entire divorce, and they could not understand it, they still don't understand it. No one advocated for me or my son, I left a very abusive marriage, and I was under a lot of control and trauma. I needed someone to defend me when I could not defend myself. They totally failed me and my son. They had no idea how to handle it or how to help me. I had to move out of our home with our son due to another violent attack. Found a place for me and my son to live, and I was without child support for the entire time of the divorce. Although I asked for it for months, I was told "money isn't everything". They didn't care to help me or advocate for me. When it came to mediation, my attorney didn't prepare at all. She didn't look at my discovery, my spouse's, our finances, she would forward my emails to opposing counsel as responses, lol, she was telling opposing counsel personal things about me that should have been kept private. When I got to mediation, and the judge asked for our plan, I gave it to him. And I knew I was in trouble when he said. She wrote it up. LOL Actual joke, then, I called when it was all over thank god to see if they treated me this way because I was not paying. and she said " no, we treat all of our clients the same way, you got the best service." YIKES! If dropping clients day of discovery, not advocating for them, getting them basic things like temp child support, looking over discovery, and actually having a plan for mediation is how they treat paying and legal plan customers, RUN! Bc the only saving grace in all of this is that I did not have to pay for it. At least I saved that money. but whoosh, treat people better. As attorneys, you take an oath to help people who cannot help themselves. The least you can do is not leave people worse off than how you found them. I worked with Carla Colabianchi at Kelley Whalen Law Firm. Do your research, I had no idea what I was doing but I spoke to different women and they all made me feel taken care of. I was not, do your research, I know it feels like a rush but trust me. Take your time and find the right person to help you, interview attorneys!

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
