Consulted Attorney Vicky J. Currie 2026We paid this woman $400 for a one-hour consultation—which actually lasted only 20 minutes—while seeking help for my wife, who had been detained by ICE along with three of her colleagues; each of them paid the same amount. Afterward, she disappeared and provided no information whatsoever. It took calling her secretary about 500 times before they finally deigned to respond—only to say they didn't even speak Spanish. I managed to communicate with them somehow and asked them to send the contract for us to review, along with our options for resolving the case; they said they would send the information, but it never arrived. Thank God we were spared from dealing with her. And that was just for the consultation fee; if it was like this before she was even officially hired, I can't imagine what it would be like once the full payment was made. It was a scam—$400 thrown in the trash. f you do not have the time or the capacity to handle cases, do not have detained individuals waste their money on a consultation that will lead nowhere; let them seek out more serious and committed lawyers instead.

Consulted Attorney Vicky J. Currie 2022-2024My experience with Vicky Currie during and after my late husband’s immigration case was deeply disappointing. I requested my late husband's immigration file and its been an absolute nightmare dealing with Vicky J Currie. What raised serious concerns for me was the constant inconsistency. One moment I was told the complete file existed and had been sent, the next moment I was told there were no receipts or accounting records because the agreement was “flat fee.” Her office also knew the package containing my husband’s file had been returned to the Mail Recovery Center because there was no return address. I replied asking what the next steps were, and never received a response. What hurt the most was being told things like, “nothing is going to bring him back,” and “your husband is deceased. He cannot get a U visa,” those are Vicky exact words in an email to me. Some lawyer. When I was simply asking for transparency and documentation. Trying to get basic documentation while grieving has become emotionally exhausting.

Hired Law firm 2022-2024When my husband died, I thought the hardest part would be burying him. I was wrong. The hardest part has been trying to pick up the pieces while searching for answers that should have never been this difficult to get. For almost two years, I have been trying to obtain my late husband’s immigration file, receipts, and accounting records after thousands of dollars were paid during one of the most vulnerable times in our lives. As a widow, I was not asking for favors. I was asking for transparency, communication, and basic documentation. Instead, I was met with missing records, unanswered emails, confusing explanations, and responses that at times felt dismissive of both my husband’s case and my grief. Some documents were eventually provided, enough to show portions of his case were active, but many important questions still remain unanswered. No family should have to investigate their own loved one’s immigration case while grieving a death. Immigration clients are not just “cases.” These are real families putting their trust, futures, and life savings into the hands of people they believe will fight for them. Many immigrants are already scared, vulnerable, and unfamiliar with the legal system. They deserve honesty, professionalism, compassion, and accountability not confusion and silence. Please protect yourselves. Keep copies of every payment, every receipt, every filing, every text message, every email, and every promise made to you. Ask questions. Follow up. Document everything. I stayed quiet for a long time out of grief and respect. But silence protects the wrong people. I DO NOT RECOMMEND VICKY CURRIE

Consulted Law firm 2026I advise exercising extreme caution if considering Vicky Currie for legal representation, particularly for anyone currently detained. During a friend’s consultation, she was the only attorney out of five who made unrealistic promises regarding detention release and asylum eligibility—results that did not align with the facts of the case. Furthermore, there are several professional red flags. She requested payment via Zelle to a non-profit organization ("Out of the Ashes Development Council") that appears to be permanently closed, rather than using a standard law office billing system that provides receipts. Most importantly, upon searching her background, we found that she has been disciplined by the State Bar on several occasions. It is deeply concerning to see a legal professional target vulnerable individuals with false hope and questionable billing practices.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
