"Martha represented me, a father of two, in a custody case lasting ten court appearances that stretched over the course of two and a half years. The mother was asking for sole custody of the children with the intent of leaving the country and allowing me only five weeks of visitation per year. Martha was brilliant in picking apart the mother's unfounded allegations and complaints against me while impressing upon the court the importance of the children having their father in their lives. Martha even called in another attorney from Washington D.C. who worked with the State Dept. in international custody cases as an expert witness to testify about the inability to enforce such a custody order which allows one parent to leave the country with the children. In the end, I was awarded everything I asked for and my children and I are forever grateful. I would recommend Martha in a heartbeat to any father out there who is fighting for their children."

Verified ClientHired Law firm 2020-2022Martha and her team were very caring and very efficient throughout my almost unbearable separation and divorce. With a prenup involved, Martha made the sale of my house go smoothly through her communication with the closing attorney. She is a truly exceptional attorney, and she handled everything for me - even during the hardest of Covid times.

Verified ClientHired Law firm 2009-2018She was very clear from the beginning on what she could offer and do for me. I used her in the beginning of my seperation and then went back years later when she handled another issue for me as well. She was always on my side and I knew it, got me everything I wanted and was a wonderful attorney.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
