At Bachner & Associates, PC, we focus on providing knowledgeable defense for white collar and other crimes in West Caldwell, New Jersey. The partners at our law office, Michael Bachner and Howard Weiner, each have decades of legal experience in criminal defense, with Mr. Bachner having also been both a narcotics and rackets bureau prosecutor in Manhattan. Whether we are representing a person of some fame or notoriety charged in a widely publicized case or a traditional client in a high-stakes scenario, we deliver the same aggressive and zealous advocacy.

Some of the specific white collar charges we handle include embezzlement, fraud, insider trading, corruption, Ponzi schemes, tax evasion, money laundering or the illegal use of offshore accounts. For general criminal defense, we protect clients against allegations involving drugs, violent offenses and internet crimes. We also offer securities law arbitration and litigation.

In one case, our law office won an acquittal after a jury trial for a man charged with a $200 million tax fraud scheme. Mr. Bachner established through vigorous cross-examination and by presenting a detailed defense case that the firm's client was not aware of the scheme and was wrongfully caught up in the government's much larger web. In another instance, after four months of litigation, a jury acquitted a different client of all charges pertaining to a $25 million securities fraud case. And in yet another case involving a former linebacker for the New York Giants, Mr. Bachner's thorough preparation of his client convinced the grand jury not to indict. Although we cannot guarantee results like these in every scenario, we always work relentlessly to seek a favorable outcome.

Because of his efforts in the courtroom and dedication to ethical practice, Mr. Bachner is AV Preeminent peer review rated,* the highest rating, through Martindale-Hubbell. Our law office invites prospective clients from West Caldwell and the greater New York City metropolitan area to discuss their cases with us in a free initial consultation. For utmost convenience, Bachner & Associates, PC, takes credit cards as an accepted form of payment.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
