I am attorney Jaime A. Cheret, serving clients throughout the greater Baltimore metro region and surrounding areas. I possess almost 15 years of legal experience. I began practicing law to provide the highest level of counsel and support to individuals and families dealing with complex, sensitive, and emotional legal challenges involving any of the following:

  • Family law and divorce, including child custody, support and visitation, adoptions, property division, alimony and all other related matters
  • Estate planning, wills, power of attorney docs and care directives

Trained in collaborative law and a Best Interest Attorney (BIA) for children, I can help you resolve your conflicts and come to favorable agreements regarding your custody and support issues, property division and all other matters pertaining to your divorce in a manner that is far more efficient, cost-effective and less adversarial than traditional divorce litigation. However, I have extensive trial experience and will not hesitate to take your matter to court if necessary.

If you are looking to establish a plan to protect yourself, your assets and your loved ones for the future, you can rely on me for the trustworthy advice you need to make the best-informed decisions as we work together to develop a solid strategy to help you achieve your goals. In addition, I can assist with preparation of Wills, Power of Attorney Documents, and Advance Care Directive to ensure that your final wishes are honored.

Honored for my outstanding professionalism and service, I have earned a Top 10 Under 40 designation from the National Association of Family Law Attorneys as well as many perennial top rankings and endorsements from my peers. I have also enjoyed numerous testimonials from my satisfied clients, and I find great reward in being able to help families with some of the most important decisions that they will ever have to make.

5.0 out of 5 stars

An excellent attorney. I highly recommend using her services for family related matters. Jamie was able to navigate all the issues in a firm, polite and reasonable manner that allowed all parties involved to come to a satisfactory agreement. In my opinion, it was her focus, determination, legal knowledge, reputation and experience in family law that made the difference. Jamie also showed that she could handle all the necessary QDRO?s involved with my case, including working with additional council to provide acceptable documents for Railroad Retirement, pension plans, IRAs and 401k plans. She followed up on all the necessary components and made sure they were prepared and submitted for execution appropriately. Jamie was able move my divorce case forward and to bring the process to a close in a very reasonable period of time after my previous attorneys were unable to get resolution over a several year period. The end result was much better than I expected. As far as working with me as a client, she was patient, empathetic, nonjudgmental and was able to carefully explain all the components of the process in a plain, easy to understand language. She identified the road blocks, explained my options and carried out my preferences. Her fees were reasonable and her invoices were clear, accurate and precise. Although my general divorce experience wasn?t pleasant, Jamie made the process much less stressful. I highly recommend her for any family related legal matter, especially those involving children or with complex financial concerns. The service she provided was worth every penny paid.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
