Overview

Attorney Daniel J. DeRienzo is the founder of our Prescott Valley law firm, the Law Office of Daniel J. DeRienzo...

Attorney Daniel J. DeRienzo is the founder of our Prescott Valley law firm, the Law Office of Daniel J. DeRienzo. Mr. DeRienzo established our firm in 2004 with the goal of providing the people of Prescott Valley, Yavapai County and surrounding central Arizona with high-quality legal representation in a broad range of practice areas, which include:

•         Family law, including divorce, child custody and spousal maintenance

•         Criminal law, including DUI, sex crimes, homicide and drug offenses

•         Bankruptcy

Mr. DeRienzo began his legal career in 1986 after earning his law degree from University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law and his admission to the State Bar of Arizona. After law school, he went to work as a prosecutor for the Arizona Corporation Commission. Afterward, he served as a Pinal County Deputy County Attorney until his appointment as the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands' Chief Public Defender in 1991.

In 1998, attorney DeRienzo launched the first public defender's office in Yavapai County and served the county's residents in that role until founding his law firm in 2004. Since going into private practice, Mr. DeRienzo has established a reputation as a leading criminal defense attorney, and he continues to assist counties throughout Arizona by drafting and arguing appeals before the state's appellate courts and the Arizona Supreme Court.

Although Mr. DeRienzo has built his reputation on his ability to defend clients facing criminal charges, the clients who turn to him for assistance with their delicate family law matters and those who seek his help as they work to overcome financial struggles find a compassionate and knowledgeable ally. How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
