I came to Gilbert Gutierrez with my Uncle to set up a Family Trust. This Family Trust was not a straight forward Trust. It has some components in it that made it a bit complicated. Shortly after the Family Trust was set up my Uncle pasted away. Gilbert's office was very professional and helpful through this whole process. I had many questions on how to proceed as the Trustee of the Trust. Mr. Gutierrez's office guided me all along the way. Helping me step by step. They handled the transferring and recording of several properties. This process has been very smooth. The staff has always been friendly and helpful when I have questions or concerns. Jiri has been great at communicating and keeping me informed. Making time to sit down and bringing me up to date on where we are in the process. Never rushed through, always making sure my questions were answered. Gilbert has been great to defend and address issues that came up legally. I did not have to worry about attending court or how to respond when corresponding with other attorney's. Gilbert has taken care of all of this. I have been very happy with Gilbert Gutierrez and Jiri and office staff. As the Trustee of the Trust I have responsibilities and duties to fulfill that are mine to complete. Gilbert's office has been great at keeping me on track throughout this process. I am very happy with the work they have done and are doing for me.

??STAY AWAY ??My review is my opinion only , based off of my experience. I hired this firm. I?m actually writing this in their office while waiting for my file because I FIRED them!!!. This firm in my opinion is incompetent. I was in pro per & assured by the paralegal Yuri, that my case would be monitored via the internet ? like all their cases are? his words. I brought every piece of mail down as it came , to their office, prior to going on vacation. I called and spoke to Arelli & Yuri that I wanted to pay what was needed so that they can receive my mail in the case so I didn?t come back to a cluster. Yuri assured me this was not necessary, that they would monitor my case online. THEY DID NOT!! I had a trial date that came & gone while on vacation & lost the case by default. Now I have to pay more money & I hired a new attorney with what I hope is a competent staff and file a motion to vacate due to Guiterez staffs incompetency. Although I saw the review about this attorney and the incompetency of the staff, I was assured prior to hiring them by them, that they revamped their staff & are working hard to work up to a better standard, BS!!. I now believe in my opinion, it?s the staff that the review was initially about. Now, they cannot even find my full file with a very important document.. There?s more I can put but I might bring litigation so it?s best that I save some back.. If your in need of an attorney, god don?t use this one!!! Hope that everyone that was taken for a ride by this firm, files a complaint with Riverside business office ,BBB, and the BAR Association, as I am!!

Mr. Diaz is not stating the truth about retaining our office. Our office was retained for limited services, not including court representation. We prepared an In Pro Per Answer on his behalf which means Mr. Diaz represents himself. At no time did we represent him, except to try and negotiate real property transaction. In this endeavor, we did so in the utmost professional manner. We performed the work that he retained us to do. We could not have agreed to monitor his case because the case that was involved is sealed from the public records. We could not have overseen his case. We asked Mr. Diaz to apprise us of any correspondence he received in his case. Mr. Diaz was extremely careless in his own affairs. He never told us about the numerous notices he received on his case and the adverse ruling he allowed to be entered. Mr. Diaz did not want to retain this office or file papers to set aside the Judgement that was totally avoidable had Mr. Diaz acted responsibly. Unfortunately, Mr. Diaz cannot accept the blame for his own conduct.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
